Nathan Shaman
Nathan Shaman focuses his practice on complex business disputes and litigation in the payments processing industry and counseling businesses on complex transactions. Before joining Global Legal, Nathan was licensed to practice in 2010 and began his work in the cutting-edge, fledgling field of medicinal cannabis law. Over the course of the next 11 years, Nathan became a well-known attorney in the San Diego cannabis industry, litigating against various municipal bodies, handling complex business disputes and litigation, representing defendants in felony and misdemeanor criminal matters, and advising cannabis start-up businesses, which eventually became Nathan’s primary focus.
In 2019, Nathan became general counsel for one of the largest cannabis retailers in California, advising on and handling complex cannabis business transactions, regulatory compliance, licensing and entitlements, and a wide range of typical in-house matters including corporate governance and compliance, labor compliance and human resources, real estate transactions, management of outside litigation and transactional counsel, securities offerings, and shareholder relations. Subsequently, Nathan also spent a short time as outside assistant general counsel for the San Diego Housing Commission, focusing on procurement.
Originally from Ohio, Nathan came to San Diego in 2007 and attended the University of San Diego School of Law. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, is an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, and is a vegetarian.
